Councilman Suspended from Sheriff's Department

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts on Thursday suspended Danny Frazier without pay from his job at the sheriff's department, pending the results of a SLED investigation into .

Frazier is a part-time, civilian employee who serves as a community liason, said Maj. John Allard, spokesperson for the sheriff's department. He was hired because of his "experience in working with businesses, civic groups and other groups to build partnerships between citizens and government agencies."

Lexington Town Council has to question Frazier, who is also a council member. The council needs answers about Frazier's involvement with video gambling, said one of the members. 

The council can't discipline Frazier but could ask him to step down.

The governor has the power to suspend a council member, if they are indicted for a crime, according to the state constitution. If the person is convicted, the governor can remove the person from office. 

, saying he made and error in judgement. He didn't mention video poker or gambling, and said that nothing he has done was illegal.
