Final Public Hearing on Residential Chickens Ordinance Set for Monday
Town council will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Lexington Municipal Complex.

Lexington Town Council will hold the final public hearing and vote on the final reading Monday of an ordinance that would loosen restrictions on raising chickens inside town limits.Β
An existing town ordinance requires thatΒ chicken coops to be at least 500 feet away from a home, making it difficult for town residents with small yards to raise chickens.
The new ordinance would allow chicken coops in residents' back yards as long as they are at least 25 feet from any property line. But each household would only be allowed four chickens.
