A crew that was trimming trees off of Hope Road near I-77 last Saturday found skeletal remains and clothing, according to a report in The State. Officers with the Farifield County Sheriff's believe the remains are those of William 'Billy' Pound, who was 54 years old when he was reported missing in December 2010.Β

The remains were found three or four miles from the spot where authorities found Pound's wrecked and burned car a few weeks after he was reported missing, according to the report.

Officers didn't connect the abandoned, wrecked car found in Fairfiled County and the missing persons report filled in Lexington County for almost two months, according to a report from WIS-TV. Investigators now say that Pound could have left his car after the accident and walked to the area where the remains were found.

The Fairfield County Sheriff's Office is waiting on DNA tests that could identify the remains.Β
