LCRAC Providing Area Seniors With Warm Scarves
The Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission is raising money to give away nearly 1,000 scarves to needy seniors.

As the weather turns cooler and seniors in need try to save money on heating costs, the nights can get awfully cold.
So last year a few people at the Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission, several of whom volunteer with Meals on Wheels providing food to seniors in need of warm meals, decided to do something about it.
They launched Project Warmth, and distributed 827 blankets to seniors in need throughout Lexington County. For some, according to project organizer Lesley Reeves, it was the only present they received.

This year, Project Warmth has returned — this time, with scarves.
After partnering with the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission, the two agencies serve 926 seniors in the area.Â

Leaders are hoping to provide each senior with a warm scarf. They have scoured numerous local stores and retailers looking for the best deals and have whittled the price down to just a few dollars for each scarf.
If you'd like to donate money for the program, send a check with Project Warmth in the subject line to the Recreation and Aging Commission, 563 S. Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. New scarf donations are also accepted.
The project is off to a great start. Reeves said if organizers exceed 926, they will contact other agencies within Lexington County that serve seniors in need and donate to them.Â
"We are truly trying to give to those in need," Reeves said. "Who are so many times forgotten because they are older and/or alone."
