Lexington Man Named SoCon Freshman of Year
Nestor Jaramillo, a midfielder who went to Cardinal Newman High School, is the first student at Wofford College to be given the honor.

Lexington’s Nestor Jaramillo on Tuesday became the first men’s soccer player in Wofford College history to be named Southern Conference freshman of the year.
Jaramillo, a midfielder who went to Cardinal Newman High School and was player of the year in South Carolina, has two goals and six assists. He had the game-winning goal in Wofford’s win against No. 23 Elon.
Jaramillo helped Cardinal Newman win the state championship in 2001, scoring 26 goals and adding 15 assists. In the spring of 2012, he had 34 goals and 18 assists as the school made it to the state semifinals.

Wofford plays 7:30 p.m. Thursday against Appalachian State in the semifinals of the Southern Conference tournament in Cary, N.C. The championship is 7 p.m. Saturday.
The Terriers won the event in 2009 and made the NCAA tournament.
