Teachers of the Year represent their individual schools in the District Teacher of the Year process, and serve on the district’s Teacher Forum for two years and the Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Council for one year.
The Teacher of the Year selection process is uniform across the district. School-level selection is based on the following professional traits: a role model, respected and admired by students, parents and co-workers; a servant, active in the community and school; a leader, willing to spend time and energy working to improve instruction; a student, who works to keep up with current educational theories and practices; a contributor to the field of education who conducts seminars, workshops, and training and helps peers develop professionally; an innovator in the classroom; a public speaker, poised, articulate and energetic; and, of course, an excellent teacher, with an ability to teach and inspire students to learn.
