Lexington Teen Arrested For Stealing Weapons, Jewelry and Cash

Lexington County Sheriff's Department seeking public's help in West Columbia home break-in.

Lexington County Sheriff’s deputies Wednesday arrested a Lexington teenager they say stole more than 17 guns in addition to more than $30,000 worth of jewelry and cash after he broke into a home on Robin Forest Drive near West Columbia. 

Richard Todd Olin Jr., 19, of 228 McLee Roa, was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary, grand larceny and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, according to a department press release.

Detectives say on Aug. 13, Olin broke into the home on Robin Forest Drive and while there he armed himself with 17 firearms, including handguns, rifles and shotguns.

Detectives have recovered eleven of the 17 firearms that Olin stole from the home, Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said in the release.

Metts said Olin sold at least three of the 17 firearms, with the wherabouts of the three remaining still being investigated.

The police say Olin and his mother are acquaintances of the homeowner and that Olin knew the homeowner would be away on a deep-sea fishing trip at the time of the burglary, Metts said. 

Olin’s mother is said to have occasionally done housework for the homeowner.

Witnesses say they saw a green Ford Mustang similar to a car that Olin drives near the Robin Forest Drive home during the time of the burglary, Metts said. 

Witnesses also say they saw Olin place stolen items from the home in the trash at a hotel.

The following items were reported stolen in the Aug. 13 break-in:

  •  One .38-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun
  •  One 7.65-mm pistol
  •  One 12-gauge Browning over/under trap shotgun with an  adjustable stock
  •  Two Remington 12-gauge shotguns
  •  One Remington 20-gauge shotgun
  •  One Remington 410 shotgun
  •  Two Winchester .22-caliber rifles
  •  One Colt .22-caliber rifle
  •  One Browning 410 over/under shotgun
  •  One Glock 9-mm handgun
  •  One Glock .40-caliber handgun
  •  One Smith & Wesson .357-caliber handgun
  •  One Ruger .357-caliber handgun
  •  Three diamond rings worth a total of $15,400
  •  One gold wedding band worth $200
  •  One gold watch with diamonds worth $800

Olin is being held without bond at the Lexington County Detention Center.
