Lexington Wildcats Win Midlands' Top Athletic Program

The Lexington Wildcats have earned the title of best athletics program in the Midlands for the third straight year in a row.

The school's two state championships and three runner-up finishes put the athletic program at the top, according to a report in The State.

The Wildcats won titles in boys cross country and boys track and field.

Led by two-sport athlete Shaq Roland, and the football team made it to the state playoffs.

The girls' golf team won second in the state, while the wrestling squad finished as runner-up. 

The Wildcats football team started the year strong as the state's top-ranked team through the fall, but their season ended in the first round of the playoffs.

Athletic Director Scott Earley said he expects another strong year for the 2012-2013 school year. 

“There is lots of pride in being a Wildcat," Earley told The State, "and everybody that’s part of this program wants success, and success for everyone else in the program.”
