Prescription Drug Take-Back Planned for Saturday

Local law enforcement, in partnership with other groups, will be collecting unwanted prescription medications Saturday across Lexington County.

Get rid of you unused or unwanted prescription medications this weekend during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.Β 

Lexington County residents can drop off their meds between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at several locations thanks to partnerships between local law enforcement, community groups and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.Β

This is the fifth year the DEA has held the Prescription Drug Take Back Day in an effort to prevent drug abuse and theft. During the four previous drug take-back days, Americans turned in more thanΒ 1.6 million pounds in prescription medications, according to a DEA press release.

β€œThe growing response to DEA’s National Take Back Day events demonstrates that the public understands, and wants to help combat, the epidemic of prescription drug abuse in America," Β said DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart. "They recognize the need to rid their homes of dangerous controlled substance medications that teens and others steal, abuse, and sell."
