Report: Man Caught Stealing Tools from Lexington Home

Deputies arrested Robert Leonard Cooper of Gaston after they say he stole tools from a carport at a Lexington home.

Deputies arrested a 36-year-old Gaston man Sunday who they say stole a wood-handled knife and a metal file used for wood from a carport at a home on Corley Mill Road.

Robert Leonard Cooper, III is charged with second-degree burglary, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.Β 

The adult son of the owners of the Corley Mill Road house told deputies he caught Cooper stealing the items from the carport around 12:15 p.m. Saturday, according to an incident report. When the son confronted Cooper, Cooper dropped the two tools about 20 feet from the carport.Β

The son wrote down the license plate number for aΒ 1997 GMC Jimmy SUV that Cooper drove away, according to the report. The SUV is registered to Cooper's wife.

Cooper is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.Β
