Report: Woman Stole Halloween Lights, Candy from Dollar Store
Deputies responded to a shoplifting call at the Family Dollar in Gilbert Monday.

A Gilbert woman was arrested Monday after deputies say she stole candy, Halloween lights, roasted peanuts and a box of hair coloring from a dollar store.Β
Kimberly Lynn Wechter, 45, is charged with shoplifting.Β
Deputies responded to a call about shoplifting around 12 p.m. Monday at the Family Dollar on Augusta Highway in Gilbert, according to a Lexington County Sheriff's Department incident report. The clerk told deputies she saw Wechter putting items in her purse.Β

When the store clerk confronted Wechter, Wechter ran out of the store so fast that she left her purse filled with stolen goods at the store, according to the report.Β
A deputy saw Wechter leave the store in an SUV and head toward Lexington on Highway 1, according to the report. A passerby told the deputy that Wechter turned onto St. Pauls Church Road.Β

When the deputy stopped Wechter on St. Pauls Church Road, she immediately opened her car door and said, "I messed up. I don't know why I took the stuff," according to the report.Β
Wechter had several bags of candy and three boxes of Halloween lights in her car, according to the report. She told the deputy that she took the items from Family Dollar.
The stolen items, valued at $45, were returned to Family Dollar.
Wechter was transported to the Lexington County Detention Center. She is being held on a bond totaling $2,130.Β
