SCDOT Plans Lexington County Bridge Improvements

SCDOT wants to make improvements to three Interstate 26 bridges in the West Columbia and Springdale areas.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation plans to replace two Lexington County bridges and raise another one as part of the Interstate 26 rehabilitation project.

The department will replace the bridges at Leaphart Road (S-30) and Rainbow Road (S-365) and raise the Old Dunbar Road (S-72) Bridge. Additional right-of-way will be required to implement improvements at these locations, according to SCDOT.

Interstate 26 is already slated for rehabilitation from near U.S. 378 at mile-marker 110.5 to U.S. 21 at mile-marker 115.4 in the West Columbia and Springdale areas.

The department wants to amend the plan to include funding for improvements the three Lexington County bridges. The department is accepting public comments on the proposed amendment through Friday.

  • Leaphart Road Bridge Replacement - $7.8 million in FY 2013
  • Rainbow Road Bridge Replacement - $6.0 million in FY 2014
  • Old Dunbar Road Bridge Raising - $2.325 million in FY 2013
