Sheriff: 2 Men Caught Breaking into Gaston Convenience Store

Deputies arrested two Columbia men who were caught breaking into a convenience store, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies arrested two Columbia men Monday afer they caught them breaking into a convenience store on Fish Hatchery Road near Gaston, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

Trent Jerrod Daniels, 25, and Datron Green, 28, are charged with second-degree burglary and grand larceny.Β 

Deputies say that Daniels and Green used a sledgehammer to make a hole in the brick wall at the Corner Mart at 4289 Fish Hatchery Road.Β

A witness called the sheriff's department around 3:13 a.m. to report the burglary. When deputies arrived, they saw that Green and Daniels had placed about 45 cartons of cigarettes and some cash near the hole in the wall.Β 

Deputies waited by the hole in the wall, according to the sheriff's department. Daniels and Green tried to escape through the store's attic but were caught.

Deputies found a sledgehammer in the woods near the store, according to the sheriff's department. They also foundΒ Green’s Chevrolet Tahoe parked in the driveway of an abandoned home onΒ Woodcrest Lane, which is about a three-minute walk from the store.Β 

Daniels and Green are being held at the Lexington County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond each.Β
