Sheriff: Man Arrested After Getaway Car Stuck in Mud

Richard Walter Murray, 42, of Lexington is charged with second-degree burglary, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies arrested a Lexington man Monday who they say stole an iron stove and electronic devices from an unoccupied home near Chapin. 

Richard Walter Murray, 42, of East Main Street in Lexington is charged with second-degree burglary, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department. 

According to arrest warrants, Murray kicked in the rear door of the home on Amicks Ferry Road around 4:40 a.m. Deputies say Murray placed the stolen iron stove, electronic devices and other items in his 2009 Saturn Vue sedan.

When he tried to drive away from the home, his car got stuck in the mud, deputies say, and he had to call a tow company to get his car out of the mud. 

The homeowner's son, who lives across the street, heard the commotion of the tow truck trying to remove Murray's car from the mud and reported the incident to ther sheriff's department.

Officers arrived and found the stolen items in Murray's car, according to the sheriff's department. They later arrested him.
