'Sweet Southern Reads' Features 2 SC Authors

The event will be held at M. Gallery in the Old Mill on Oct. 23.

Two local authors will speak at M. Gallery in the Old Mill during "Sweet Southern Reads" on Oct. 23.Β 

The event, hosted by the Friends of the Lexington Main Library, features Emily Cooper of Columbia and Ken Burger of Charleston.Β 

Cooper is author of "Queen of the Lost," historical fiction about former South Carolina First Lady Lucy Holcombe Pickens.

Cooper was a newspaper editor in many areas of South Carolina, including at the former Lexington Dispatch-News. She also worked as a press secretary and public relations executive before retiring.Β 

Ken Burger, a long-time sports writer, has written fiction and non-fiction. His book "Baptized in Sweet Tea" is a collection of columns he wrote at the Charleston Post & Courier. His new book "Salkehatchie Soup" will be out in November.Β

"Sweet Southern Reads" is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. The event is $5 at the door. Entrance is free for Friends of Lexington Main members, but you must e-mailΒ lmlfriends@yahoo.com to reserve a space.

Hors d’oeuvres, sweets, and sweet tea will be served.Β 

The event is part of a week-long celebration by the Friends of the Lexington Main Library forΒ National Friends of Libraries Week.Β 

The group is also hosting an Honorable Pets Day,Β Library Staff Appreciation Luncheon and aΒ Sale at the Friends Corner Gift Shop.Β
