USC Student From Pelion Places at Regional Research Conference

Margaret McCoy was one of six USC students to place at the regional conference in Atlanta.

A University of South Carolina Aiken student from Pelion recently won second place in the health category at a regional undergraduate conference in Atlanta.

Margaret McCoy, a senior nursing major, won the title for her project called   “Lite Foods, Tight Belts: The Real Story Behind Healthy Foods” at the Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP)/McNair undergraduate research conference in June. 

McCoy was one of six USC students from across the state to place in the conference.

The 17 USC students who participated in the conference are all part of the Ronald E. McNair program, a program that prepares TRIO-eligible students for doctoral studies.

Students are eligible for TRIO if they are the first in their families to attend college, are eligible to receive the Pell grant or are from a group traditionally under-represented in higher education.
