Vehicle Break-Ins Increase in Lexington

The police department is asking residents to be especially careful about locking their cars on the U.S. 378 and U.S. 1 commercial corridors.

Lexington Police are warning residents about an increase in vehicle break-ins on the  U.S. 378 and U.S. 1 commercial corridors. 

Burglars are stealing purses and fradulently using the checks and credit cards to make purchases, according to the police department. Several businesses in those areas have been hit recently.

The police department is asking residents to:

  • Report any suspicious activity you see in parking lots as it is happening. If safe and possible, write down the tag numbers of suspicious vehicles.
  • Remove all valuables from your vehicle even if you are just running into a store for "just a minute." These are mainly "smash-and-grab" thefts where windows are not a deterrent.
  • If possible, park in heavily-traveled areas that are easily visible.
  • Spread the word.
