
AÂ West Columbia police officer shot and killed a man Monday night after the man pulled a handgun from his waistband, according to the West Columbia Police Department.Â
Officers were responding to a call in the area of 1190 Sunset Boulevard around 11:17 p.m. about a man, later identified as Eliakim Tipan Shabazz, 48, of Cayce, who was threatening someone with a handgun, according to the police department.Â
When officers arrived, they found Shabazz a block away in the 1100 block of Leaphart Street, according to the police department. When the officers made contact with Shabazz, he pulled a handgun from his waistband, and the responding officer shot him.Â
Shabazz had a long history of weapon, drug, assault and resisting resist, according to the West Columbia Police Department.
