West Main Road Work Begins Tuesday
Town workers will work on three intersections during the night this week starting Tuesday.

Traffic on West Main Street will shift during the nights this week for improvements in three areas.Â
Town workers will relocate water and sewer lines on West Main Street near , Park Road and , said Jennifer Dowden, events and media coordinator for the town.
The work will take place between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. starting Tuesday, and will continue for about a week.

Workers will also be working on the sidewalk near  on West Main, Dowden said. One lane of traffic will be closed near that project.
It's the first step to improving traffic flow through downtown Lexington. Turning lanes will eventually be added where U.S. 378 (Columbia Avenue) and U.S. 1 (West Main Street) meet, said Town Administrator Britt Poole.Â

The construction is Phase I of the Unified Traffic Improvement Plan, a plan seven years in the making that aims to ease Lexington's backed-up traffic, Dowden said.Â
