Where to Donate During Tax-Free Weekend

Going shopping during tax-free weekend? Pick up some extra items to donate to charity or donate your used things and get new ones tax-free.

Hundreds of people will flock to the stores this weekend to buy tax-free school supplies, electronics and clothes. 

Charity organizations are hoping shoppers will pick up some extra school supplies or clothes to donate. 

Lexington Interfaith Community Services (LICS) is collecting school supplies but also needs men's clothing and shoes for their thrift store.

"The women's section is full and there are a lot of children's clothes, but men just don't donate their clothes and shoes," said Executive Director Robin Bowers. "They wear them out and throw them away." 

LICS accepts used clothing and shoes, so this weekend may be a good time to clean out your closet.

These four organizations are in need of items that will be tax-free this weekend:

Lexington Interfaith Community Services (LICS)

LICS is collecting school supplies for children for families that can't afford them. . The organization is also short on men's clothing and shoes. Donations can be dropped off at the on Harmon Street. 

Salvation Army's Clothes for Kids

The Salvation Army will be collecting new clothes, shoes and school supplies for children in need at this weekend.

Shoppers can stop by the Salvation Army table in the JC Penney food court and pick up a card that lists a child's needs and sizes. After making purchases for the child, shoppers can drop off the donations at the table.

Volunteers will be the table during regular mall hours until Aug. 5. 

Pawmetto Lifeline

The nonprofit animal rescue organziation needs towels. Donate your old ones and buy new ones tax-free for yourself this weekend. Donations can be dropped of at on Bower Parkway.

Larry's Giant Subs School Supply Drive 

Pick up some tax-free school supplies and drop them off at Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. The supplies will be donated to foster and adopted children in Lexington. 

Poorboy Cruisers is also sponsoring the supply drive and will hold a car show in the parking lot.
