1. Myrtle Beach carjacker caught in Virginia after police chase (shorenewsnetwork.com) — Myrtle Beach police say a 21-year-old local man is accused of stealing a car at gunpoint on 4th Avenue North, then driving into Virginia where he was quickly arrested after a short chase. The vehicle was tracked out of the city using license-plate camera technology, and the suspect now faces charges in both Myrtle Beach and Virginia while awaiting extradition.

2. 2025 year in review: Mayoral changes, Horry County scandal grab political headlines (wbtw.com) — Myrtle Beach voters chose a new mayor, Mark Kruea, who campaigned on neighborhood protection, public safety, and rethinking the tourism development fee, while North Myrtle Beach also elected a new mayor. The year also brought a major Horry County harassment scandal and a hard-fought deal that keeps the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at an upgraded, city-owned ballpark under a 30-year lease.

3. New Myrtle Beach initiative launches to aid hospitality workers in crisis (wpde.com) — A new “À La Heart Grand Strand” fund is launching next spring to give emergency financial help to hospitality workers in Myrtle Beach and nearby beach communities facing crises like accidents, family deaths, or maternity needs. Backed by the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association, organizers aim to raise at least $100,000 and are actively seeking founding partners and local donors to support the region’s tourism workforce.

4. Man shot at ‘close range' at Myrtle Beach campsite, police report says; 2 women face charges (wbtw.com) — A man was shot at close range at a Myrtle Beach campsite near Seaboard Street and Robert Grissom Parkway on December 20, but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Police later arrested two 41-year-old women, one from Myrtle Beach and one from Conway, on attempted murder and related charges after they allegedly approached his campsite and opened fire.

5. Dead sea life washing up in North Myrtle Beach. Could renourishment be to blame? (myrtlebeachonline.com) — Beachgoers in North Myrtle Beach are finding dead sea creatures like horseshoe crabs and stingrays washing ashore, raising questions about an ongoing $72 million beach renourishment project. Army Corps officials say renourishment can cause limited short-term disruptions to marine life but stress strict protections and monitoring, while the exact cause of the recent strandings remains unclear.
