BIRD Sighting: Mourning Dove Sculpture Unveiled
Second bird unveiled for downtown project.
A sculpted mourning dove has lit upon the archway of downtown's Russian Orthodox Christian Church.
The life-sized bird sculpture is part of Summerville's Birds in Residence Downtown Summerville program. It is designed to be similar to Greenville's Mice on Main program — encouraging foot traffic around downtown.Â
The first BIRD unveiled was an owl, perched on town hall. This is the second BIRD. The next BIRD will be the white-breasted nuthatch, which will be unveiled during September's Third Thursday.
The project is through Audubon Center at Francis Beidler Forest, Sculpture in the South and Summerville DREAM.
