Grape-Stomping, Bocce Ball Featured at Inaugural Festa Italiana

First-ever Italian Festival offers food, culture and more at Azalea Park.

Benvenuti! The Lowcountry Festa Italiana is right around the corner, putting the spotlight on the Italian culture in one, first-ever festival in Summerville.

The festival is 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Azalea Park. Admission and parking is free.

The event will feature authentic Italian food, drink, merchandise, and live music. There will even be some grape stomping.

Feeling competitive? Get a partner and enter the Bocce Tournament. Bocce, an old world game similar to lawn bowling, is fun, easy to learn, and enjoyed by both men and women. The tournament begins at 2PM on our beautiful courts in Azalea Park . Cash prizes are awarded to the top three winning teams. Teams can sign in on-site or call in advance to reserve a spot — entries are limited. Click here to enter.

In 2011, four families decided to create Lowcountry Festa Italiana as an independent nonprofit organization to promote awareness of Italian-American culture in this area. The hope is to raise funds through this festival to provide scholarships for local students to study abroad in Italy. Scholarships are based upon need and academic merit.
