Police: Summerville Man Led Authorities on Chase

Chase went from Mount Pleasant to North Charleston and ended in a crash; William Elliot Berger charged with incident.

Authorities are charging a Summerville man for a Thursday night police chase that ended in a wreck, according to multiple media outlets.

William Elliot Berger, 43, was charged with failure to stop for blue lights, resisting arrest and driving under the influence, the Post and Courier reported.

According to reports, Berger was at an ex-girlfriend's house at Ivy Hall in Mount Pleasant, and she had called the police. Berger allegedly fled in his white Honda Civic and failed to pull over when police signaled. Berger continued to outrun police onto Interstate 526 toward Daniel Island. Mount Pleasant Police called off the pursuit.

Berger was later spotted by Charleston County deputies who took up the pursuit as he traveled down Rivers Avenue, Ashley Phosphate Road and Interstate 26. As Berger tried to exit onto Highway 78, he wrecked, according to ABC News 4.

Berger allegedly struggled with deputies after the wreck and one deployed a Taser on him.
