Sold! Heritage Square Confirmed Sold to Unknown Buyer

Town attorney: unclear whether or not new owners will comply with town's order to tear down dilapidated building.

The largely vacated and dilapidated shopping center at the corner of Berlin G. Myers and Highway 78 has sold, according to a for-sale sign outside the property.

Attorney Rudd Smith confirmed the sale of Heritage Square to Patch Tuesday. As of Tuesday evening, the buyer's name has not been disclosed.

Heritage Square is currently in litigation against the Town of Summerville after the town ordered the unsound building demolished at the owners' expense. The case has taken years in court and the building has remained shuttered and unoccupied.

Town Attorney GW Parker said it is unclear whether or not the new owners will abide by the town's order or will continue the fight in courts. If the fight continues, the next appeal likely won't be settled until some time in 2014, he said.
