Town to Award New Contract for Fire Station

Summerville Town Council calls special meeting Tuesday to award Knightsville fire station contract.

Summerville Town Council has called a special meeting to award the contact for Summerville Fire Station No. 5 — also known as the Knightsville or Butternut fire station.

The meeting is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Summerville Municipal Complex on South Main Street.

The fire station contact was previously awarded to Linden Construction and construction began November 2012. Construction was halted recently as the town sought to end the contract for unknown reasons.

The original contract was for $1,272,000. The station is within a mile of Pine Forest Country Club, Corey Woods, White Gables and Guilford Gates subdivisions. Fire Chief Richard Waring said the new station will decrease response times from six to nine minutes to three to five minutes.
