Weekend Planner: Triathlon, Live Jazz, Back-to-School Dance and More

Want to get the most out of your weekend? Check out these Summerville events:

  • YMCA Youth Triathlon. Event starts 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ponds Farmhouse. All boys and girls ages 7-14 to come out and have fun at the annual Summerville Family YMCA Youth Triathlon. Swim, bike, and run through the beautiful neighborhood and trails of The Ponds community, located off of 17A, just South of Old Orangeburg Road in Summerville. Cost is $30. Details here.
  • Tour of the New Ashley River Park. Take a tour and provide input into the county's latest park 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Renken Road and Bacons Bridge Road. Stop by at any time during those hours. The Parks Commission has engaged Thomas & Hutton to prepare conceptual plans based on public input from the previous open house. This is your opportunity to further view the property, take walking tours, and give additional input to the future development of the park.
  • Summerville Farmers' Market. Enjoy the freshest food and the nicest people during the weekly farmers market 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday in the First Citizens Bank parking lot off of South Main Street.
  • Live Classical Jazz with Mike and Carolina. A night of classical, light jazz begins 7:30 p.m. Friday at Single Smile Cafe. Michael Lindsey and Caroline Nelson are a classical guitar and vocal duo based in Charleston. Their repertoire consists largely of delicately-arranged jazz standards.
  • Adults' Back to School Dance. Singles, couples, parents and grandparents are invited to an adults-only back-to-school dance 7-10 p.m. Saturday at Bethany United Methodist Church. This event is free and features a DJ, laser lights, balloons, a photo booth and food. The gym will be decorated like the high school dances of your past.
