• Dorchester County deputy awarded South Carolina's highest civilian honor, the Order of the Palmetto (counton2.com) — A longtime lawman who grew up in Walterboro has received South Carolina’s highest civilian honor, the Order of the Palmetto, recognizing more than 50 years of public service. Chief Deputy Bruce Owens’ career has spanned the Marine Corps, Air Force, and multiple Lowcountry law enforcement agencies, culminating in his current leadership role with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.
   

• Beaufort man sentenced to 15 years for sexually assaulting teen (wjcl.com) — A Beaufort man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old runaway he met while she was trying to reach her grandparents’ home in Walterboro. The assault happened at a Port Royal motel, and the defendant must also register as a sex offender.
