Paramedic Jeff Kaufman retires after 39 years of service to the area (dakotanewsnow.com) — A longtime paramedic who has spent 24 years serving Sioux Falls residents with Rural Metro Ambulance is retiring after nearly four decades in emergency medical service. Jeff Kaufman, originally from Freeman, South Dakota, was recently honored with the 2025 Star of Life award and says the relationships built with patients, especially seniors, have been the most rewarding part of his career.

Christmas surprise for Sioux Falls girl (keloland.com) — An 8-year-old Sioux Falls girl battling a rare brain cancer got an unforgettable Christmas surprise after a routine hotel stay turned into a magical weekend. Mall of America partners transformed a space into a cozy holiday cottage, complete with gifts, festive characters, and a surprise visit from her cousins who traveled from Virginia to be with her.
   

3. Highway patrol helps people stay safe on the roads (keloland.com) — From their Sioux Falls base, South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers are stepping up winter preparations to keep drivers safe on icy roads. They’re using specialized training, real-time SD511 updates, electronic signs, and coordinated decisions on closures—plus fines and possible rescue costs—to discourage people from driving on closed highways when storms move through KELOLAND.
   

4. DUI rollover crash leads to arrest north of Sioux Falls (mitchellrepublic.com) — Emergency crews from Sioux Falls helped respond after an alleged impaired driver rolled a vehicle near Renner, then fled and climbed onto a barn before being arrested. The driver was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital for evaluation and now faces DUI and related charges in Minnehaha County.

South Dakota Congressmen share excitement for defense policy bill (dakotanewsnow.com) — Sioux Falls readers will see big defense investments headed to South Dakota, including hundreds of millions of dollars for Ellsworth Air Force Base and a National Guard facility in Watertown.
