1. New radio system fills in gaps for first responders in Minnehaha County (siouxfallslive.com) — First responders in Minnehaha County, including areas just outside Sioux Falls, now have a fully upgraded radio system that fixes long-standing dead zones and should last about 20 years. Funded with roughly $4 million in federal pandemic relief, the new towers and equipment mean firefighters, deputies and medics can finally communicate reliably without relying on personal cellphones, improving safety for residents countywide. 
2. Canistota native brings piano skills to Orpheum Theater (keloland.com) — A Canistota-born pianist is finally realizing his decades-long dream of performing at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Sioux Falls this Thursday. Matthew Mayer, who’s taken his music around the world, is returning home for a one-night show surrounded by longtime family, friends, and supporters. Local residents can catch an internationally traveled performer with deep South Dakota roots on a familiar stage.
3. DOC officials touch on state of prison reform in South Dakota (dakotanewsnow.com) — A state task force is meeting in Sioux Falls today to shape programming for South Dakota’s planned new prison, which will now be located in the city instead of Lincoln County. Corrections officials say expanded space here is crucial to reduce recidivism, emphasizing that most inmates will return to local communities and need stronger reentry support rather than simply tougher punishment.
4. Team Buche Cares launches mobile pantry in SD (keloland.com) — A former Sioux Falls Thrive mobile market truck has been reborn as Team Buche Cares’ “Mobile Hunger Hero,” now serving tribal reservations across South Dakota. After a first stop in Sisseton feeding more than 250 people, the nonprofit is refining logistics and planning visits to high-need communities like Standing Rock, Cheyenne River Sioux, and Fort Thompson. The effort aims to bring grocery-store style access directly to remote areas.
