Here are the top three stories today in Chattanooga:
- The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera has announced a new multi-layered project celebrating Bessie Smith. The Blues legend is known for standing up for herself, her culture, and her sexuality. The project will be titled "Bessie Smith: Orchestrating the Blues" and will occur throughout the first part of 2023. (The Chattanoogan)
- Judge Pamela Fleenor has upheld the decision to revoke club owner J.T. McDaniel's beer permit. His nightclubs, A Gentleman's Club and The Night Owl, will not be allowed to sell beer. When asked for comment, McDaniel stated his desire to get out of the beer business anyways. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)
- Chattanooga COVID-19 cases are extremely high according to Erlanger infectious disease specialist Dr. Sizemore. Despite the number of cases being high, the number of severe cases is low. According to Dr. Sizemore, the number of hospitalized COVID-19 cases has risen but not significantly. Dr. Sizemore is reportedly focused on preparing for Monkeypox. (The Chattanoogan)
