Here are the top three stories today in Chattanooga:
- Earlier in the week, the Chattanooga Fire Department and emergency personnel saved a woman by forcing open the front door of her home. According to the CFD, the woman had received burns after falling onto her space heater. The homeowner was worried about her damaged front door and wanted to ensure her home was secure, but she needed to go to the hospital for her injuries. Chattanooga Firefighters and Hamilton County EMS bought a door with their own money and worked together to install it so that the woman could focus on healing. (WDEF News 12)
- To offer more "transparency," the Chattanooga Police Department released body camera footage showing the "proper use of de-escalation policy" during a traffic stop. While searching for a white Kia that had just shot at a dark-colored Kia, an officer stopped a mother and minor driving a white Kia. According to the CPD, the officer "quickly determined they were not involved with the shooting incident" and de-escalated the situation. Later, 22-year-old Camron Hilt of Ooltewah was found walking away from the bullet-ridden dark-colored Kia. He was arrested for possession of a gun and marijuana, which are violations of his parole. Police are still searching for the suspect that shot at Hilt and his car. (WTVC)
- After serving less than a year in their roles, two city employees are leaving Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly's administrative team. According to a news release, Tamara Steward, the city's first chief equity officer, is moving into the private sector, and Mike Compton, a senior adviser, is leaving for health reasons.
