Wheelchair-accessible swing brings playground fun to East Brainerd Elementary (newschannel9.com) — Students who use wheelchairs at East Brainerd Elementary in Chattanooga now have their own accessible swing, giving them a safer and more independent way to enjoy recess. Funded with help from Commissioner Lee Helton, the $20,000 project is already improving sensory regulation, outdoor participation, and inclusive play for several children.
   

2. Chattanooga looks to protect aging carriage horses with updates to ordinance (newschannel9.com) — Chattanooga’s City Council has advanced new rules to better protect the city’s aging carriage horses, including extra vet checks at 20 and mandatory retirement by 25. The ordinance also adds safeguards for pregnant mares, while local operator Chattanooga Carriage Company supports the changes as a way to keep the downtown carriage tradition humane and sustainable.
   

3. UTC Vice Chancellor For Research Reinhold Mann Announces Retirement (chattanoogan.com) — UTC’s vice chancellor for research, Reinhold Mann, is retiring at the end of December after helping grow the university’s research profile and partnerships across Chattanooga and the region. Since joining UTC in 2015, he expanded external funding, launched the Quantum Initiative, and strengthened ties with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the broader local innovation ecosystem.
   

4. Chattanooga Police Captain Heather Williams Graduates From The FBI National Academy (chattanoogan.com) — Chattanooga residents can celebrate one of their own as Police Captain Heather Williams has graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, an honor earned by fewer than one percent of officers worldwide. She says she’s eager to bring new leadership and communication skills back to Chattanooga to better support local officers, their families, and the community.
   

5. Golden Apple Award: Jennifer Brewer, Boyd Buchanan (wdef.com) — A longtime Boyd Buchanan math teacher in Chattanooga has been honored with this week’s Golden Apple Award for helping students conquer AP Calculus and build confidence. Jennifer Brewer’s students and colleagues praise her patient teaching, faith-centered encouragement, and focus on critical thinking that they say changes how teens here see both math and themselves.
