Here are the top three stories in Chattanooga today:
- Five area shopping centers and a vacant tract of land involved in an alleged Ponzi scheme could soon be sold for $2.7 million. The shopping centers are located on Hixson Pike, East Brainerd Road, Highway 153, and Battlefield Parkway. The vacant tract, which is located on East Brainerd Road, was previously an elementary school. While co-owner John J. Woods is involved in the legal complications around the case, developer Clint Wolford owns 50 percent interest in the centers and is willing to pay off the remaining 50 percent in a proposal submitted to the court-appointed receiver in the case. - There are several special events happening in Chattanooga this weekend! Unfortunately, that sometimes means road closings — but this list will help you steer clear of traffic. Fort Street between E. 13th Street and E. 14th Street will be closed today (Dec. 16) and tomorrow (Dec. 17) for a private event at the Honest Charley Museum. W. 55th Street between St. Elmo Avenue and Beulah Avenue will also be closed on Saturday — in this case, for the St. Elmo Stroll & Luminaria Festival. (The Chattanoogan)
- Chattanooga Chamber has announced its upcoming calendar of events, and one will be music to your ears. Katherine Elverd, director of music therapy at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, will be speaking at the North River Civic Center on Dec. 21. She will address the various ways music can benefit people of all ages in clinical settings. Attendance to the event is $15.00. (The Chattanoogan)
