City Manager Cathy Ball also highlighted 2025 milestones, including West Walnut’s completion, Town Acres Elementary’s groundbreaking, new housing at Roan Hill, and major downtown and civic redevelopment projects.

2. Bishop implements Traditionis custodes (etcatholic.org) — Catholics who attend St. Mary Church in Johnson City are seeing their Traditional Latin Mass transition to the newer 2002 Roman Missal as the Knoxville Diocese implements Pope Francis’ Traditionis custodes. Local parishioners, along with communities in Knoxville and Chattanooga, are sharing concerns and hopes in listening sessions while leaders promise to preserve Latin, chant, and traditional reverence.

Ballad Health makes $30K kettle match for Bristol, Johnson City and Kingsport Salvation Army (wjhl.com) — Johnson City residents will see local Salvation Army services boosted by a $10,000 share of Ballad Health’s $30,000 holiday kettle match across the Tri-Cities. The funds help “fill the gaps” for neighbors needing food, shelter, and other support, and Ballad is encouraging more local organizations to join as kettle match partners.

ROUNDUP: Crockett cruises past Cordova in Smoky Mountain Classic (johnsoncitypress.com) — High school hoops fans in Johnson City saw Providence Academy’s George Pitts notch his 850th career win as the Knights rolled past Cumberland Gap 82–49. Scammers Impersonate Salida Planning Committee (arkvalleyvoice.com) — Email scammers impersonating Salida’s planning department have sent fake invoice messages, similar to schemes already reported in Johnson City. While this warning is aimed at Salida residents, it’s a reminder for Johnson City readers to double-check any emailed payment requests, verify sender addresses, and call official numbers directly before wiring money or sharing financial details.
