Blue Hills Hosts 'Poem in Your Pocket' Day in celebration of National Poetry Month!

A picture is worth a thousand words. A poem is worth . . . well, why not find out on Thursday, April 18! The Blue Hills Community Market in Abingdon will host 'Poem in Your Pocket' Day as part of a community celebration of National Poetry Month. Established and Aspiring Poets and Spoken Word Artists are invited to join your emcee theunlistedreceptionist in the upstairs cafe of the Abingdon Commons and share a favorite poem, perform or improvise an original poem, or co-create a poem with other poets! Bring a single powerful word or short phrase you'd like to be expressed in a poem or find a word somewhere in the Blue Hills (yeah, it's a poetry scavenger hunt) and the Unlisted Spoken Word Ensemble (USWE) will create a one-of-a-kind painting from the words you contribute. The goal of this event is to collect 1000 powerful words that will then be used in a performance of '1000 Words' on Saturday, April 27 at The Arts Depot finale celebration of National Poetry Month. National Poetry Month (April) was established in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets to raise awareness and appreciation of poetry as an integral part of the American cultural experience. Since then, National Poetry Month has become the largest literary celebration in the world. Join us and help spread the power of poetry!
