‘Resilience Reconsidered' To Be Addressed In ETSU Strong BRAIN Institute Talk

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – “Resilience Reconsidered” is the focus of a talk sponsored by the East Tennessee State University Ballad Heath Strong BRAIN Institute (SBI) to be held Tuesday, Jan. 11, at noon via Zoom.

This talk, the second in the SBI’s Resilience Presentation Series, will be given by Dr. Michael Cull, an associate professor in the Department of Health Management and Policy at the University of Kentucky.

Cull says that the critical component in a more resilient, better engineered system of helping is the team.

“Designing collaborative work in professional teams has the potential to transform our work and support a safer, more effective and more engaged workforce,” he said. “Not only are collaborative decisions of teams known to be more effective, the social connectedness that emerges from what the military calls ‘unit cohesion’ may be our most effective buffer against the effects of burnout and work-related stress, including traumatic stress.”

The Strong BRAIN (Building Resilience through ACES-Informed Networking) Institute was established by Ballad Health and ETSU to promote awareness of and research on ACEs, or adverse childhood experiences, which can have a profound effect on individuals’ mental and physical health throughout life.
