How Much Do You Know About Memphis?
Every town has its traditions. Check out these fun facts about what makes Memphis so special.

Memphis is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Memphis has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- Memphis is the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll, and it has a rich music history. Home to Sun Studio, where Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis first recorded their music, Memphis is also the location of the legendary Stax Records, where Otis Redding and Isaac Hayes recorded some of their most famous hits.
- The Memphis Grizzlies are the city's NBA team and have a dedicated fanbase. Catch a game at the FedExForum and join in on the fun.
- The National Civil Rights Museum is located in Memphis, and it sits at the site of the Lorraine Motel, where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968. The museum tells the story of the American Civil Rights Movement and is a powerful and educational experience for visitors.
- Memphis is home to one of the largest urban parks in the country, Shelby Farms Park, which covers over 4,500 acres of land. Visitors can bike, hike, or horseback ride through the park's many trails, or rent a kayak or paddleboard and explore its lakes and waterways.
- Finally, Memphis is known for its many festivals and events throughout the year. The Memphis in May International Festival is the city's largest event, featuring a month-long celebration of music, food and culture from around the world. Other notable festivals include the Beale Street Music Festival and the Cooper-Young Festival.
