Bethel Grove house fire injures 2, including Memphis firefighter (localmemphis.com) — A weekend house fire in Memphis’ Bethel Grove neighborhood left one resident critically burned and a Memphis firefighter injured, according to fire officials. Crews say an accidental electrical fire started in a back bedroom of the Lowell Avenue boarding house, which had four residents, causing tens of thousands of dollars in structural and property damage.

Kwanzaa celebrations continue into second day across Memphis (fox13memphis.com) — Kwanzaa observances are in full swing across Memphis as families and community leaders focus on Kujichagulia, or self-determination. Local organizers say the holiday is helping residents, especially young people, connect with African heritage while strengthening Black neighborhoods. Woman arrested after running over ex multiple times: MPD (wreg.com) — Police say a man was critically injured after being run over multiple times with an SUV during a confrontation late Saturday morning in Southwest Memphis. Officers later arrested a woman identified as his ex-girlfriend in South Memphis, and she’s now charged with attempted first-degree murder while the victim faces surgery for serious injuries.

New Memphis mentorship organization looks to guide youth (fox13memphis.com) — A new group called Brothers United is stepping up to mentor young people in Memphis, starting with coat donations to students at Kirby High School. Formed just eight months ago, the mostly retired members meet regularly and are expanding their outreach in the new year. They aim to guide local youth away from harmful choices and toward a more hopeful future.
