Shelby County Clerk's Office says they've provided necessary financial records to auditing firm (fox13memphis.com) — Shelby County officials in Memphis say a key annual financial audit could be delayed because their outside auditors still lack crucial records from Clerk Wanda Halbert’s office. Clerk staff insist they’ve already provided required documents and are assembling additional details, while commissioners plan to revisit the dispute at Monday’s full commission meeting, which could impact county reporting and oversight.
   

2. ‘Neural Nexus' innovation district announced for Downtown Memphis (actionnews5.com) — A massive new “Neural Nexus” innovation district is planned for two blocks in Downtown Memphis, right by FedExForum and Beale Street, blending cloud-computing infrastructure with housing, retail, and green space. Backed by billions from Houston-based Legacy Power Capital, the project aims to attract high-tech talent and redefine how Memphis invests in its front-porch downtown core.
   

3. Another felon mistakenly released from Shelby County Jail due to processing issue (actionnews5.com) — Memphis residents should know that a convicted rapist, Cameron Brooks, was mistakenly released from the Shelby County Jail after a paperwork omission left no legal hold on his case. Deputies are now searching for him, and the sheriff’s office says jail staff followed procedure while blaming a county IT error, echoing a similar mistaken release of a convicted killer in September.
   

4. Former patients testify in trial of indicted Memphis gynecologist, Sanjeev Kumar (localmemphis.com) — In Memphis federal court, jurors are hearing detailed testimony in week two of gynecologist Dr. Sanjeev Kumar’s trial, focused on alleged device reuse and Medicare fraud at Poplar Avenue Clinic. 5. MSCS holds second community meeting on proposed school merger (fox13memphis.com) — Memphis-Shelby County Schools is weighing a plan to merge Chickasaw Middle into nearby Westwood High, creating a combined 6–12 campus in Southwest Memphis as soon as next school year. District leaders say the move would better use underfilled buildings and strengthen programs, while many families worry about student separation, academic support, and whether the merger feels pre-decided. A school board vote is expected in February.
