Detectives say Bates got into a gold Chevrolet sedan, which detectives think has a connection to McClain, in the parking lot of a convenience market near the TSU campus minutes before the shooting. The car was driven onto campus and into the Boyd Hall parking lot. A witness told police Bates standing outside the vehicle on the passenger side just before he was shot. The car left the campus moments later.

Efforts by detectives to locate McClain, who is last known to have lived on Lunn Court, and the Chevrolet sedan have been unsuccessful since Wednesday.
