Here are the top three stories in Nashville today:

  1. Beginning on Friday, Jul. 7, the Broadway Bridge will be closed until September. The closure is to allow the Tennessee Department of Transportation to completely replace the bridge. When the work is complete, the new bridge will have three lanes for traffic in each direction as well as a wider sidewalk. (Fox 17)
  2. The City of Nashville is reorganizing the Community Oversight Board for the Nashville Police Department following a recent change in state law that requires oversight boards to be created at "the behest of government entities." The Metro Council is currently considering legislation that would re-introduce a local oversight board but with reduced powers in order to meet the new state guidelines. The proposal would reduce the number of members of the oversight board from 11 to seven and create a markedly different process for investigating complaints. (The Tennessean)
  3. A registered sex offender was arrested on Thursday, Jul. 6 after being accused of stalking a woman and exposing himself while she exercised. The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. at an apartment complex on Elmington Avenue in Nashville's West End. Timothy Temple, 56, has been charged with two counts of indecent exposure, possession of a controlled substance, one count of stalking, and a sex offender registration violation. (WKRN)
