Rolling Gun Battle Near Downtown Nashville Kills 1, Injures 2

Nashville police are investigating multiple potential crime scenes in a miles-long gun battle that killed one person early Friday.

When police responded to the intersection of Merritt Avenue and Hagan Street, they said they saw a car driving slowly down an alley. Officers said they found three people inside the vehicle, along with multiple weapons. They were all taken into custody.

NASHVILLE, TN — Metro Police spent hours Friday morning and multiple crime scenes near downtown, investigating a miles-long gun battle between two cars that left one person dead and two others hospitalized.

Witnesses told police they heard the first gunshots around 2 a.m. at Eighth Avenue and Division Street. The groups involved in the shooting were both at Agenda nightclub on Ninth Avenue earlier in the evening, according to police.

Police found an abandoned car with significant damage from gunshots near the scene of the first reported gunfire. Forty-seven shell casings were found in the area near that car. Officers later found another damaged and abandoned car on Gray Sheet following another shots-fired call.

Police were then called to the intersection of Merritt Avenue and Hagan Street, about a mile from the initial scene. Officers said they saw a car driving slowly down a alley. Three people inside had multiple weapons and all were taken into custody.

Three shooting victims drove themselves to the hospital. One, who was shot in the head, died from his injuries. Two others are at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and have non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are investigating potential crime scenes at Eighth and Division, Martin Street and Gray Street, and Hamilton Avenue and Hagan Street.
