Davidson County Unemployment Drops Again

For the first time ever, all 95 Tennessee counties have unemployment below 5 percent, with Davidson County's at 2.2 percent.

NASHVILLE, TN — Davidson County's unemployment rate fell to 2.2 percent in September, down 0.5 percent from August, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development. The jobless rate fell in all 95 Tennessee counties for the second consecutive month with 95 now below 5 percent.

Davidson County's rate is the second lowest in the state behind only Williamson County, where the rate is 2.1 percent. Of the ten lowest county-level figures statewide, eight were in Middle Tennessee.

Davidson County is tops among the state's four largest metros, besting Knoxville's Knox County (2.5 percent), Chattanooga's Hamilton County (2.9 percent) and Memphis' Shelby County (3.4 percent).

Davidson County's unemployment rate has dropped 1.8 percent since September 2016.

The state rate, reported last week, is 3 percent, down 0.3 percent from August's adjusted figure.
