Gun Store Thefts: 3 Arrested May Have Cased Murfreesboro Store

As gun thefts spike in the Midstate, a trio of men arrested in Murfreesboro may have been casing a store.

MURFREESBORO, TN — Three men arrested in Murfreeboro this week may have been casing a gun store for a burglary. Middle Tennessee has seen a rash of gun store break-ins in recent months, including one in Smyrna earlier this week.

Murfreesboro Police arrested Nicholas Waters, 18, Quandre Knowles, 21, and Gawain Grimes, 24, on charges of unlawful weapons possession by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen weapon, and theft of property.

The men were spotted acting suspiciously by employees of the Outpost Armory.

Employees told police the trio looked at nearly everything in the store, but didn't seem interested in buying anything. At one point, they asked about purchasing ammunition but demurred when store employees said they needed identification to make the purchase.

The trio also seemed interested in when the store would close. Recent gun store thefts have all followed a similar pattern: a front door is smashed, often with a car, after-hours.
