I-24 Murder: Were Victims Coming From Strip Club? Police Say No

The woman injured in a deadly I-24 shooting said she and the man killed were coming from Deja Vu, but police don't buy it.

NASHVILLE, TN — The woman injured in the shooting that led to a car crash and the death of a 22-year-old man on Interstate 24 early Wednesday said she and the man were coming from a Nashville strip club, but police say that doesn't jibe with what's been learned during the investigation.

Hassan F. Al Mutory, 22, died at the hospital from multiple gun shots wounds after crashing his car at I-24's intersection with Briley Parkway south of downtown. According to the 18-year-old woman who was also in the SUV, she and Al Mutory had left the Deja Vu strip club downtown when another person opened fire on their vehicle. Police, though, say that multiple witnesses refute that timeline.

The SUV crashed into a concrete barrier on the Briley Parkway exit ramp and both Al Mutory and the woman were taken to the hospital, where he died. The woman is expected to survive.

Detectives believe Al Mutory was targeted.

Al Mutory himself was due to serve nine years on drug and gun charges plus another three years for reckless homicide connected to an August 2014 fatal shooting of a Bellevue 20-year-old. When he was initially arrested on that charge in 2015, police say he rammed an unmarked police car in a futile attempt to escape.
