Backups On I-40 Eastbound After Closure At Church Street In Downtown Nashville
TDOT confirmed the closure.
Interstate 40 Eastbound was closed at Church Street in downtown Nashville, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, and traffic cameras now show a steady trickle of cars being let through with a massive backup behind them.
TDOT's website said the closure was for "debris" and was reported at 8:56 a.m. The Tennessean reported there was a "massive spill on the highway."
One lane was still closed at 10:30 a.m. with traffic moving slowly.

The closure only affects Eastbound lanes. Westbound lanes were flowing smoothly.
It was not immediately clear what was spilled. Backups are likely to persist downtown through the afternoon.
