Joelton Home Invader Stole Car, Drove Through Garage: Police

Police are searching for a man who stole a car, drove it through a garage and then ditched it, escaping "Dukes Of Hazard"-style.

JOELTON, TN — A man avoided capture late Monday by jumping out of the passenger-side window of a car he stole, according to police.

Around 10:30 p.m. Monday, a woman was outside her Joelton home on Highway 41A checking on her dog when she saw a man getting into her car in the garage. The man motioned for the woman to be quiet, but she instead went inside and got her husband, who grabbed his gun.

As the husband fired, the man backed the 2008 Nissan Altima through the shut garage door and sped away.

Shortly before midnight, the car was spotted by a passer-by careening off a road in Ridgetop. The man inside the car then jumped from the passenger-side window and fled into some nearby woods.

Police and the Tennessee Highway Patrol set-up a perimeter and used dogs and helicopters in an effort to locate the suspect but were unsuccessful and by 6:15 a.m., Ridgetop Police said the man was likely no longer in the area.
