Judge Angelita Dalton Makes Nashville History
Angelita Dalton became the first black woman to hold a Criminal Court gavel when she was sworn in Thursday.

NASHVILLE, TN -- After more than a decade on the General Sessions bench, Judge Angelita Dalton was sworn-in as a Criminal Court judge Thursday; in doing so, Dalton made history.
She becomes the first black woman to serve as a Criminal Court judge in Davidson County. First elected to the General Sessions Court in 2006, she served a rotation as presiding judge in 2010 and 2017.
Gov. Bill Haslam appointed Dalton to fill the vacancy on the Criminal Court Division II bench left by Randall Wyatt's retirement.
