Man Who Claims To Have HIV Spits In Nashville Patrol Car

A man, confronted with following people on Broadway, is accused of drunkenly spitting inside a police car after claiming to have HIV.

NASHVILLE, TN -- A man who claimed to have HIV and hepatitis drunkenly spit inside a Metro Nashville Police patrol car, according to an affidavit.

Officers were called to Lower Broadway Thursday night, following up on complaints that a man was following people up and down the street. When they arrived, they found Travis Ray Johnson arguing with someone. Police said Johnson smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet.

Johnson then allegedly gave the officers permission to search him and they reportedly found "a white powdery substance" inside his wallet, which later tested positive for cocaine.

Once he was inside the patrol car, Johnson allegedly began spitting and told the officers he had HIV and hepatitis and then continued to spit.

He is charged with criminal exposure to HIV.
